grabyourface Heads For The Brink On Classic Industrial Sea

This is such an interesting piece of art! Kind of hearkening back to the mid-’90’s and downtrodden tunes that were emerging from the underbelly of Grunge (Think Kim Gordon-led Sonic Youth moments and the majority of the Lou Barlow-driven Kids soundtrack as a template), grabyourface’s Sea takes that sound, combines it with lo-fi Hip-Hop and the beginnings of Trip-Hop and wraps it all in an Industrial setting. Intrigued yet? Because you should be!

“sombre” introduces the complex, dense world of grabyourface with a chaotic yet calculated foray into the abyss as Marie Lando’s spoken word diatribes deliver a biting commentary on depression. Brooding guitars pave the way for the similarly somber “sense” which is crushing, conjuring all the gloomy feels amidst steady programmed beats while “somewhere else” is Mogwai meets Nine Inch Nails as the song reaches for a broad, cinematic scope.

Equally epic is “shore”, equipped with pulsating beats, shimmering synth lines and Lando in all her angst-filled glory traversing the troubled waters within a relationship. Keys and echoed hits herald the start of “so” which is sonically akin to standing on the edge of a cliff or on a shore as waves come crashing home and pondering life and then the title track closes the record out with another pointed blast of aural anxiety as Lando’s voice lords over all for one last sad symphony.

Sea arrives through Negative Gain on December 18th. You can pre-order yours now by heading here. For more from grabyourface, follow the pages containing the media that is social by clicking here, here, or here.
