The Jacklights Celebrate Spooky SZN With The Sizzling Sounds Of Final Girl

If the lead single and title track off The Jacklights upcoming new EP had you on the edge of your seat as if you were watching a new Horror movie, then you weren’t the only one! Except this was an edge-of-your-seat in anticipation kind of thing and not one of impending dread as we can assure you after hearing the, ahem, final result that that anticipation is very much met with the rest of the new songs that follow on Final Girl.

“Haunted” is a piledriver of an opener with Mike Gaylord’s drums, Mike Allen’s bass and Nilagia McCoy’s rollicking riffs coming at yer earholes hard and fast. Settling into a distinctly danceable beat with the way Gaylord shifts between Punk Rawk power and something akin to a disco backbeat, McCoy’s voice gives us the Aimee Echo feels especially during a gnarly breakdown with Allen’s bass boom sounding both solid and spooky. “Past Tense” is built around an especially contagious chorus with McCoy’s guitars forming a formidable wall of sound with Allen and Gaylord while “Anniversary” is a fuzzed out foray into fantastic storytelling with McCoy’s guitar tones matching the somber mood her voice projects on a track that’s a nice modern Alt Rawk classic combined with some of hum’s more recent gargantuan shoegaze tendencies.

If you’ve been following us then you’ve probably already seen our thoughts on the EP’s title track (And if not, read it here!) but when woven into the sonic fabric here, “Final Girl” delivers that one last bit of “Oomph!” that forms a fitting fist to deliver that last punch on a killer release from what should already be one of your new favorite acts.

Final Girl releases on October 3rd. You can pre-order yours now and find out all the places you can stalk, we mean, follow The Jacklights (Get it? Cuz “Final Girl”????) by heading here.
