Temptress Transcend On Resplendent Evil Disco Archetype The Descent

Who says that “Evil Disco” died with Wayne Static??? Certainly not New Hampshire’s Temptress who might be the unofficial torchbearers for the heavy subgenre. Especially with the release of their latest which leans into the more Electro Metal elements of their sound which combines the teutonic stomp of Rammstein with the Nu-Industrial that Static-X and Professional Murder Music did so well.

Think of recent single “Watch It Burn” (Not included here but instantly ready for your earholes along with past Temptress bangers here) as a a template for The Descent with the foundation for this release built on a type of futuristic fury that’s big on grooves and gnarly hooks while wrapped in a stupendous synthetic world. Or as the kids say: “This slaps!”

But I digress.

Obviously we’re digging what Temptress is throwing down because otherwise, we wouldn’t waste your time and clog up your timelines with puff pieces of throwaway content. And what they’re throwing down on their first full-length is nothing short of some astounding, resounding heaviness. “Karli” is kinda transcendent from what Temptress has accomplished already beginning with a serene synth line and Jake Funk’s equally sanguine delivery that escalates into a burgeoning stomp which becomes this ever present throbbing thump. “Best Of Me” continues the Electro trend with an almost mystical synthetic backdrop providing the setting for Funk’s gruff Hip-Hop inspired verses with a thinly veiled nasty growl rearing its’ head.

“Words Unspoken” glistens and gyrates much like Gravity Kills used to do so well back in their prime highlighting another stellar schizophrenic Funk performance which shines a light on both the heavy and the heartfelt as Anthony Coy crafts a mighty sonic backdrop with crushing guitar tones. “All My Fault” is menacing and macabre thanks to Coy’s artistry with the keys, emulating an eerie organ drone to start with Funk’s words and croons accenting the haunting air while “A House Divided” gets its’ “Evil Disco” on and then some as this raucous rabble rouser is Temptress’ take on MDFMK meets Static-X.

“Wide Awake” is the kind of finisher you’d expected after getting as much awesome as what came previously on The Descent and this closing track does not disappoint with a Hybrid Theory-era Linkin Park bark and a Beneath…Between…Beyond… Static-X bite (Think “So Real” in particular) that’s fundamentally Temptress with an inherent synchronicity between Coy and Funk that’s pure magic.

The Descent descends on Halloween. You can pre-order it now when you head here and for the latest on Temptress, follow the trail of socials by clicking here, here, or here.
