Singles! War On Alexandria, “Grip (The Heavy One)”

There are some artists out there that, regardless of hearing a note, when news of new music is announced then you just know it’s gonna be good. With only a few releases to their name so far, War On Alexandria is quickly becoming one of those bands and on their newest single, “Grip (The Heavy One)” they go beyond simply delivering on expectations.

With an almost indecipherable guttural wail to start things off, “Grip” is a far cry from the more anthem-driven “Sleep Deprived” and continues the counterpoint as this dark, grungy beast comes at listeners like a cross between “The Chain” and Alice In Chains (1996’s self-titled album especially). Co-conspirators Emma Keefe and Liam McCain prove once again that their musical partnership is a potent one and when they merge vocally it’s pure alt-rawk bliss.

Corey Spingel’s drums fuel the fire, switching between solid grooves and slamming crashes while Lucas McCain’s low end reverberations further the somber feel of the song. Keefe continues to shine, adding a little twang to the soulful delivery she concocts here as her powerful pipes contrast the fiery riffs that Liam lays down.
