“Listen at your own risk!” might be the final line uttered by Tairrie B. Murphy at the conclusion of the debut single from new outfit SWTEVL (Pronounced “Sweet Evil”) but the only risk we can envision is listeners missing out by not taking a chance on the righteous Rawk flowing out of the speakers when “Hellzapoppin'” is on!
As a music fan, it’s been fascinating to watch the metamorphosis/evolution of Tairrie B. unfold over the years. From her well-documented beginnings in Hip-Hop before transitioning into more Heavy terrain with the Nu-Metal meets NYHC of Manhole which evolved into Tura Satana and later My Ruin, Tairrie B. has definitely traversed the realms of heaviness which makes latest venture with husband Mick Murphy (Teenage Time Killers, Chevy Metal) all the more surprising.
Think less Riot Grrrl and more straight up Riotous Rawk as Tairrie B exits the chrysalis once again with a new hybrid sound that retains every bit of the ferocity built from years and years of screaming but channels it in a new way for an exciting turn that echoes Joan Jett and The Runaways over Jinjer or Rolo Tomassi. More just badass than blistering with multi-instrumentalist Murphy laying down a salty sonic soundtrack as accompaniment, “Hellzapoppin'” is a three and a half minutes of “Welcome!” that immediately demands your attention and a follow or two or three on ye olde socials to find out what’s next.
