Singles! sapling, “Eris Worship”

We feel privileged that we’re able to do this on the regular but even moreso when bands like sapling are around to not only do what they do on the regular (Read: Create kickass self-proclaimed “bitchpop/art pop/bad jazz”) but also trust us to talk it up when we can. Like today with “Eris Worship”, the Worcester/Providence trio’s first slab of new sonic shenanigans following last year’s phenomenal full-length amor fati (Which you can read about and listen to following the reading here) set to be unleashed as part of the first evah Ask Me About My Dumb Band compilation!

So where to begin with the newest creation from Amber Toiletfire Tortorelli, Jonny Spaghetti Cordaro, and Rainy Maple Sugar Candy?!?!? With “Eris Worship”, consider the game changed once again for sapling as it’s less a continuation and more a constant evolution taking everything from amor fati and amplifing it into a succinct three minutes and change with lyrics touching on being drawn to the drama of others. It’s bluesy and schmoozy and jazzy at other times but bathes regularly in a rad mid ’90’s Alt/Indie tub with airs of The Breeders while also dipping its’ little piggies into the Morphine deep end especially in the kind of trance-inducing fervor that legendary Boston outfit used to excel at (There’s more to that band than “Honey White”, people!).

Oh, and there’s a video dropping on the same day as well which is as holy sweet jeebus wild as you’d expect. Actually, no. It’s wilder than you could ever anticipate. The video, directed by sapling, takes inspiration from a plethora of Tom Robbins’ novels (Skinny Legs and All, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues, etc…) for some videotaped zaniness that’s about par for the course if you’ve ever experienced sapling in the wild.

“Eris Worship” releases on June 1st (As does the video which you can set a reminder for in the YouTube clip below) as part of the Ask Me About My Dumb Band Vol. 1 compilation with a matinee release party happening at 3PM at the Midway Cafe the same day featuring sapling (Who go on at 330PM EST sharp!) as well as Orca Bones, Battlemode, The Jacklights, and Double Star. You can read all about the event when you head here, get the comp when you head here, and stay up on all the sapling happenings when you head here.
