Singles! Rx27, “Gasoline” featuring Rikk Agnew

Everyone has different ways of celebrating Halloween. One of my recent traditions is to watch as many horror movies as (in)humanly possible…or at least 31 within the month of October. I check out new ones and revisit my kind of classics. Like Return of the Living Dead which is not only over-the-top ghoulish fun, but boasts one of the most kickass Goth Punk soundtracks of the ’80’s.

But why am I going on about a cult classic Zombie flick you ask? Because after listening to Rx27’s debut single “Gasoline”, it’s pretty apparent that this group of L.A. misfits and outsiders make the kind of music today that would easily sound right at home on that (in my opinion) iconic album alongside greats like The Cramps, The Damned, and T.S.O.L.

Thad Coleman’s bass tones propel the track headfirst into the vocal clash of MisMaxine Murr Derr and Joie Blaney whose call and response lines are simply divine. MisMaxine Murr Derr is the second coming of Debbie Harry mixed with Cherie Currie while Blaney’s delivery brings to mind Joe Wood of T.S.O.L. or Dead Girls Corp. if you’re looking for a more modern contemporary.

Christ, they even have a guitarist called The Dust Warrior….if that fact doesn’t pique your interest then you might be following the wrong page. But besides that fact, they’ve also enlisted some help with Christian Death’s Rikk Agnew adding some extra “Oomph!” to The Dust Warrior’s power riffing while Melanie Jo brings a heft with her mighty drumming and Paul Roessler adds an eerie air through his keyboards.
