Singles! Rorschach Test, “Fallen”

Probably fitting that as we found ourselves reviewing a new outing from 16Volt (Complete with a new interview with 16V’s Eric Powell), fellow former Slipdisc Records labelmates Rorschach Test would blast back unexpectedly with a new single and video!

Sure, there’s the “Big Four” in Metal that everyone knows but for us when discovering some of the more underground Industrial our “Big Four” came out of the aforementioned label Slipdisc with records from Drown, 16Volt, Nihil, and Rorschach Test all taking turns at some heavy rotation in the pre-RNRF days.

Speaking of Rorschach Test’s record from that time, as we sit here blasting 1998’s Unclean (Easily a diamond in the rough kind of album that you absolutely must hear) between bouts of dissecting “Fallen” we’re finding that it’s like no time has passed (But actually, 26 years give or take). Vocalist James Baker sounds as vital now as when barking “Don’t touch me I’m unclean” with Kolby Peoples and The Narcoleptic Goddess adding new layers on this new ride.

The last time we heard from Baker and RT was in 2020 at the onset of a worldwide pandemic which stalled pretty much everything but in that time since, it seems that there’s been a return to form almost especially considering that last single “Enable Me” was very much in a more Electronic-based vein. Biting and bodacious, “Fallen” is like the loudest and most experimental parts of Unclean combined and then refined for a new era (Think “Lament” and “Monster” sparring). Baker, singing lyrics by The Narcoleptic Goddess, sounds positively possessed and poised to perform at the pulpit once again for this new sonic sermon over crushing cathartic sounds conjured by himself and Peoples.

“Fallen” is out now through all your favorite digital service providers (Some of which can be found here and here) along with the accompanying video which you can view below.
