Singles! Lovina Falls, “Vaulted”

Screengrab from the Joan Hathaway-directed video for “Vaulted”

Surely you’ve heard Calculating the Angle of Our Descent from former Mistle Thrush vocalist Valerie Forgione as Lovina Falls now, right? Well, what are you waiting for??? For those who are already well-versed in the debut solo record from Forgione that was released earlier this year, you’ll no doubt be ecstatic to hear that “Vaulted” from the record is following “On Your Side” with a video treatment of its’ own once again from director Joan Hathaway. And for the rest of y’all, here’s your chance to get on the right side of aural history.

The latest single off May’s Calculating the Angle of Our Descent, “Vaulted” is more of an enigma and yet another vibrant color for the canvas from Forgione’s ever expanding sonic palette. Similar to “On Your Side”, “Vaulted” is mysterious and magical but diverts from that path slightly with a powerful closing act that leans a little more into the heavy (With David Minehan on additional guitar alongside Brenden Cobb’s “madness guitar”) for a feel that’s like David Bowie’s Blackstar mixing it up with Melissa Auf der Maur’s magnificent Desert Rawk Auf der Maur full-length.

Then there’s Hathaway’s visual accompaniment to “Vaulted” which is gorgeous to behold and more akin to a mini-film than a video treatment as, like the song, the accompanying ocular journey is one that demands repeated viewings just to catch all the coolness within! Captivating and colorful like the song itself, the visual “Vaulted” sports a series of scenes in settings ranging from a magic show, a carnival, and an abandoned playground which, under the watchful eye of Hathaway, adds greatly to the Lovina Falls mystique.

“Vaulted” is out now on Calculating the Angle of Our Descent which you can find here. For the video accompaniment, you have to wait until September 27th but in the meantime, stay in the Lovina Falls loop by heading here, here, or here.
