Singles! Lauren Lakis, “Fear Of God”

Enthralling is probably the most perfect adjective I could think of when describing the music released by Lauren Lakis thus far. Combining this kind of mysticism that Marriages or Chelsea Wolfe exude with a Pop veneer, Lakis is making music that is mysterious and powerful yet accessible.

While her body of work is impressive, today we’re focusing on the recently released “Fear Of God” single and video which is an ethereal/transcendent number demanding of your attention.

Andrew Halpin’s drumming shuffles in and eases listeners into a manic state with Jared Ciezlewicz’s guitars adding to the burgeoning intensity before Lakis’ sweeping croon acts as an aphrodisiac, lulling you into a a false sense of security before everything gets amped up for a thunderous conclusion.

The accompanying video (Which you can view here), directed by Lakis and Ian Carre-Burritt, takes the religious themes of the song and puts them on full display with Lakis as a nun dancing with the devil (Portrayed by guitarist Ciezlewicz) in a barren wasteland. Picture it as David Lynch following up Twin Peaks with his version of a Mad Max tale.

“Fear Of God” is out now ahead of Lakis’ new record, Gazin’ Into Oblivion, which arrives this fall. For the music and more, head here or here. For the latest on Lauren Lakis, follow her across the interwebs by clicking here, here, or here.
