Singles! Filter, “Face Down”

We’re all for new Filter singles ESPECIALLY when they serve as the harbinger of a brand new album which is the case with “Face Down” heralding a long awaited new album (Their first since 2016’s Crazy Eyes) called The Algorithm tentatively scheduled for an August release (Wait, are we going to get a new Filter AND Ministry record in the same month in 2023???) through Golden Robot Records.

Say what you will about Richard Patrick and co. but they’ve always had a penchant for masterfully crafting singles throughout their illustrious career. Whether it’s for a soundtrack (“Jurassitol”, “One”), off an underrated album (“No Love”, “Soldiers Of Misfortune”), or one of many blockbusters right out the gate (“Hey Man, Nice Shot”, “Take A Picture”), Filter has a history for reeling in new fans and keeping the mainstays around through the sonic symmetry they produce to introduce new music to the masses.

That streak has continued since the release of Crazy Eyes in 2016 with a slew of single releases in the interim between albums that each captured a different facet of Filter’s musical personality. The only difference with 2022’s “For The Beaten” and the just released “Face Down” is that we’re now back on track toward Filter’s 8th full-length. And if these tunes are any indication, fans are in for a treat! Regarding what facet of Filter fans get on “Face Down”, be prepared for an Electro Pop banger with a hard edge, driving beats, and a killer chorus as Patrick turns in a particularly subdued effects-laden performance that’s just as vicious as ever.

The video treatment, directed by Vicente Cordero/Industrialism Films, warns of the dangers of technology taking over with the band (Patrick, Jonny Radtke, Elias Mallin, and Bobby Miller) shown playing in the studio interspersed with some on the nose clips bringing the title of song to life like an episode of Ridiculousness or America’s Funniest Home Videos.

“Face Down” is out now to watch and listen to and can be found at all your favorite streaming haunts when you click here. For the latest from Filter, including the most up-to-date info on the new album and touring including their first ever live stream event called California Screamin’ on June 17th and the late summer/early fall run with Rob Zombie, Alice Cooper, and Ministry, follow them across the information superhighway when you head here, here, or here.
