Singles! Carissa Johnson, “I Surrender”

Art by Aidan Lapp

The kind of music that Carissa Johnson creates is tantamount to the term “timeless”. Whether it’s last year’s “Congratulations” single, a guest spot on Linnea’s Garden track “In The City”, or the L’Heure Bleu, After Dark EP, there’s just something endearing in the chameleonic way that Johnson adapts and evolves with each release. And latest track “I Surrender” is no different.

Johnson’s first release of 2024 is fairly heavy but not “heavy”, y’know? Powerful and loud yet tender and touching as it deals with themes of letting go, “I Surrender” is a rousing anthem with a torrent of percussion beginning this tsunami of sound that quickly settles into a driving Alt Rawker with Johnson’s serene delivery melding with the pianos and guitars quite nicely before some heavenly harmonies in the chorus hit home hard on how spectacular the songwriting is.

“I Surrender” releases on February 16th (With a video treatment on the way this Spring!) and you can be one of the first to hear it when you head here for all the pre-save/pre-order options. 1. Carissa is the best. Besides writing, recording and releasing her own music, she also inspires and helps other artists to get their music out too. I know this cause Carissa managed, produced and inspired me. Much love for this beautiful person, Dutch of Dutchboy blues
