AlphaSix is quickly becoming one of those bands where just announcing something new compels us to start a draft without even hearing a note. And latest single “Abyssal Awakening” continues that trend with a furious slab of heady heaviness that should come with a warning to “Brace for impact” as soon as that “Play” button is pressed.
If you though the last bout from AlphaSix was out there then just wait! The next offering off the upcoming Assimilate: Oceans full-length, “Abyssal Awakening” almost stands in opposition to “Orphan! Tether to the Mother” as the trio of Zack Hughes, Steven Nash, and Matt Hughes plus AlphaSix (The AI) with guest lead vocals from Howie Straws concoct a veritable mosh pit melee that masters a bevy of Metal styles. Incorporating more monstrous vocals and more synths makes “Abyssal Awakening” something of a shreddy symphony this time around and a sound that, at times, comes at you like a cross between recent Cattle Decapitation outings and Devin Townsend circa Deconstruction (Think “Juular”).
