RNRF X In Between Days, Local Look: Weakened Friends

Chances are, if you saw SLOTHRUST’s recent mini-tour earlier this summer then you caught Portland, ME’s own Weakened Friends as direct support. If you didn’t catch that tour then you’re in luck because you get a reunion at this year’s In Between Days Festival (SLOTHRUST play the same day on the IBD stage) when Weakened Friends take the Arbella Insurance Stage on Day 1 of the 2-day event happening at Veterans Memorial Stadium over in Quincy on August 19th & 20th!

Their latest record, Quitter (Released in 2021), is a big, loud, fun RAWK album with a capital “R” that has a secret weapon in the form of songwriter/guitarist/vocalist Sonia Sturino whose playful vocal approach masks some truly powerful pipes on songs like “Planes”, “Bargain”, and the title track which is a banger and then some. “Everything Is Better” is a modern Alternative anthem with Annie Hoffman’s bass and Adam Hand’s drums vibing hard off the other and deeper within, “Spew” is a Grunge/Alt instant classic that pairs Toadies with Veruca Salt and The Breeders for the ’90’s throwback supergroup you never knew you needed to hear. Speaking of the ’90’s, Dinosaur Jr.’s own J. Mascis makes an appearance on “Hate Mail” from 2018’s debut full-length Common Blah featuring ripping opener “Peel”, rollickin’ rawker “Good Friend”, and “Aches” and its’ fancy fret work from Sturino.
