Pulp Rawk: That Halloween By Mike Hickey

Did you know that there was a companion novella to Mike Hickey’s 2021 short film That Halloween??? Neither did we! Until we met the director quite unexpectedly earlier in the year at Salem Horror Fest and he told us all about it! Being a completist, and because we loved the short which you can read about here, we just had to get our hands on a copy. And like most books in our possession we didn’t get to it in a timely manner… until now!

Covering three different time periods of the indescribable terror wrought upon the people of Granville by Rodney Allan Barrett (Aka “The Willow Woods Wolfman”) leading up to the events in the mini-film, That Halloween in written form is a clever novella that fills in many of the blanks and, ahem, fleshes out some of the untold story residing in the cracks within the confines of the short.

Want the inside scoop on the beginnings of not only “The Willow Woods Wolfman” but also the deputy who attempted to stop his twisted reign??? Some insight on our main costumed protagonists and what led them to a haunted hang at June and Frank Marsters’ former residence on that fateful night featured in the short film??? And what really happened between Frank and June that Halloween in 1955 when they seemingly met an untimely end at the hands of Barrett??? A gruesomely good time filled with references that’ll keep Horror fans giddy, That Halloween works whether you’re looking for more from director Hickey’s film or if you need a quick fright before bed this season.

That Halloween is out now through Engen Books and can be found when you head here or here. For the short film, and to see what writer/director Mike Hickey is up to next, click here for all the pertinent links.
