You haven’t heard anything quite like Pollyanna Blue in some time… or maybe you have? The duo from Bristol creates this kind of timeless vibe with their brand of Alternative Rawk where you swear you’ve heard something sort of like it then some aspect jumps out and you’re all “Nope! Nothing sounds like this!” which makes their upcoming debut release nothing short of legendary with the sounds they convey.
“Saviour” is a slammin’ Rawk anthem in the vein of some of the great mid-’90’s Alternative giants filled with blasts of drums and a riding bass line from Rich Earle that perfectly accents the riffage flowing from Zoe Collins who also fills the room with a voice that’s like Sneaker Pimps’ Kelli Ali turning to guitars over Trip-Hop. It’s the kind of track that’s uplifting and would fit perfectly at the end of some flick where our heroes have just done something mighty or triumphant and the absolute best kind of opener/introduction to Pollyanna Blue.
“Haunted” is big and beautiful with a glistening glow and an apt title amidst the atmosphere conjured thanks to this incessant thumping like a heartbeat as Collins’ voice offers a mesmerizing performance that builds into a grand payoff. “Strong Enough” is an introspective anthem of its’ own and easy to see why it was chosen as the latest single. With soaring vocals and guitars from Collins, crashing drum lines, and Earle’s gnarly rumble all leading to a multi-faceted meltdown toward the end, “Strong Enough” is the perfect gateway to the Pollyanna Blue world. Then there’s “Sapphire Lake”, a moody maelstrom of swirling sounds with Collins’ powerful presence behind the mic at the epicenter to bring Trials & Tribulations to a stunning conclusion.
