Looking Glass War Cap Off A Captivating Succession Of Singles With New EP Where Neon Meets The Rain

Design credit: Goddamn Glenn

On Where Neon Meets The Rain (Found as a lyric in “Arrive!”), Boston’s Looking Glass War continue to captivate while capitalizing on the sonic good will rightly earned from the strength of the singles released so far.

We already knew that “Arrive!” was a gem and follow up “I Can Tell By The Cars” was a clever 180 that took everything you learned about the Post-Punk Glam outfit and turned it on its’ head. But in a good way. Where “Arrive!” was bold and bombastic with soaring guitar tones from Pete Zeigler, vocalist Goddamn Glenn’s broad vocal delivery swooping through, and the rhythmic resilience of bassist Mike Ackley and drummer Tony Porter thrusting and throbbing forth, “I Can Tell By The Cars” was a refined and almost restrained version of the same band but just as powerful with Goddamn Glenn especially showing off a range that is like a mix of Jarvis Cocker and Justin Hawkins here.

The just released “A Tsar Is Torn” taps into that crop of mid-aughts outfits that may have gotten overshadowed/lost in the push back then (Lookin’ your way, Razorlight!) to make this ditty a bit of old school magic siphoned through a 2023 filter with Zeigler’s guitar strums really resonating as Porter and Ackley shuffle and shine succinctly in unison. Capping off the debut release from LGW is “A Gun On A Wall In A Scene” which gives us some gnarly Tom Petty vibes with the way that Zeigler works the guitar here but add in Goddamn Glenn’s lush voice alongside the Porter/Ackley killer combo and comparisons be damned because Looking Glass War has their own sound.

Where Neon Meets The Rain arrives on on September 29th. To get to the one-stop shop/place where you can secure your copy as well as find all the links to socials, live shows, and more, head here.
