Leatherrax Rev Up The Rambunctious Riot Rawk On Red Rot Rouge

Believe it or not, this is the 2nd duo we’re reviewing for you today. And we don’t know why we keep mentioning that in both this and the other post. Maybe because the sounds within each are so stellar and super heroic that we’re just kind of in awe? Anyway! Right now we’re all about Providence’s Leatherrax who recently dropped the killer Red Rot Rouge containing six tracks of pure noisy Rockabilly Riot Rawk.

Now not to be confused with an outfit like Stray Cats when talking “Rockabilly” but more of a vibe that the duo of Kaylee and Foz bring about especially on opener “Scolding” and the way those guitars jangle just right and surround this maelstrom of melody. “Flowering” follows with a spacey dissonance that’s a little off putting in the way that the whole of the Kids soundtrack could be but flows into a nice Indie Alternative rhythm with some boisterous bass tones rumbling on as Foz and Kaylee trade verses and play off each other’s energy.

“Swaddled Subordinate” is all riffs and beats with Foz and Kaylee’s words ganging up to form a powerful Rawk entity while “Issue with the Scar” is a little more lo-fi with a Foz vocal that’s like Thurston Moore meets Beck but covered by a fuzzed out fury. Foz continues on the lead vox for the Sex Bob-Omb come to life “Preservation” with “Sandwich” being served up last and offering some heavenly vocal harmonies during this closing Indie Alt jaunt.

Red Rot Rouge is out now and can be yours by heading here. For more from Leatherrax, including all the deets on upcoming live excursions, follow them across the information superhighway by clicking here.
