Jump The Fall Rev Up For A Rawkin’ Return With Ten Year Guilt: Part 1

In simplifying the complexity of Boston Hard rawkers Jump The Fall you could make the case that it’s as if Ed Kowalczyk is fronting Alter Bridge but they go way beyond that. With Ten Year Guilt: Part 1, they tread a fine line between Hard Rawk, Grunge, and even Glam at points to conjure a special kind of sound that’s all around magical.

“Drown” begins with a hefty guitar crunch and a raining crash of percussive attacks before fading to give way for Randy Bettencourt’s voice to croon and careen around the intricate melodies being created underneath.

“Connect”, ahem, connects best when it goes right for our collective earholes with a fierce opening salvo and then settles into a sweet mid-tempo rawker with Bettencourt delivering a swoon in a refreshing soulful register. Then there’s “Say Goodbye” which is kind of this neat amalgamation of Alice In Chains and Faith No More’s unique individual styles with layers of vox creating an ominous vibe and a nouveu Rawk groove cementing the song as a lost gem from the ’90’s.

Closing with a hearty Hard Rawk rendition of the Nine Inch Nails classic “Terrible Lie”, Jump The Fall continue to diversify their musical palette especially when the band open up on that iconic breakdown and transform it into this almost spiritual passage hitting the heady notes over the heavy ones.
