Like the second coming of Cubanate and a slightly less abrasive Author & Punisher, ESA deliver an album that’s bold, stunning, and definitely what the future of Industrial music should sound like with Burial 10.
Opener “Relapse” is just nasty. It’s visceral, it’s intense, it’s everything Industrial Metal fans want of their most favorite kinds of artists from the genre. Hitting all the sweet spots with harsh vocals delivered in a gruff bark, hypnotic beats, and repetitive verses drive this opening salvo into your brain as subtly as a kick to the head.
“One Cut Too Many” is just as furious, beginning with a fuzzed out tribal refrain before becoming a stunning slab of glorious noise that’ll have listeners jumping up and down and headbanging and dancing at the same time. It’s an epic eight minute jam that’ll easily provide the soundtrack to whatever kind of night you’re planning.
“Cloak and Dagger” has an air of The Prodigy with Jo Hysteria laying down some truths in German amidst a massive drum ‘n bass renaissance while “Wither” is a spiraling monolith of rabble rousing intensity that brings to mind Skold at times. Elsewhere within the sonic fabric of Burial 10 is “I Remember” which is incendiary and buzzing, driving into an almost spiritual breakdown. Remember that opening scene in Blade where all the vamps are dancing but you think it’s just a regular club and then all the blood comes down and the shit hits the fan and the place goes nuts? That’s this song.
“Her Body Prints Secrets” is a synthetic march of Doom and “Heavy is the Head that Wears the Crown” is syncopated serenity with propulsive beats and a menacing air as Lecture spits fire. Corlyx’s Caitlin Stokes joins the fray for “You are Safe Here” which is an eerie Electro masterpiece that bounces as much as it broods. A pair of seven minute bangers (“Burial 10”, “Hold Your Tongue”) offer different intensity levels and throw some Thomas Dolby and Gary Numan New Wave meets Electro in a blender with Front Line Assembly as they begin an electric journey to the stunning closer “Blessed with Bruiser” which is this sprawling, symphonic behemoth capping off a phenomenal start to the new decade from Jamie Blacker and ESA.
