Draw Into Disorder Channel The Spirit Of Early Nirvana, Crank It To 11 On Nappy

Listening through Nappy, the latest EP from Japan’s Draw Into Disorder, is like being transported back to the state most associated with perpetual rain and flannel in the ’90’s. Call these six tracks and homage or an ode but at the core of Nappy is a group of tunes made in the 21st Century that truly triumph.

Beginning with “Nowhere to Belong”, Draw Into Disorder immediately capture that ’90’s feel with driving bass lines, bombastic drum tones and heavy guitars but it’s “Calm Down” which arrives next that’s a true beast with vocalist Hideyuki Shimizu shifting between whispered, chilling passages and a full on growled scream as the noise produced around him absolutely crushes.

“Puke” is the epitome of the Grunge era as swirling bass lines from Hiroshi Maeda collide with Shimizu’s start/stop delivery on guitar and vocals to channel Bleach-era Nirvana turned up to 11.

“Contagion” is as catchy as it is caustic with drummer Hideki Tosha’s beats bouncing all over the place in a fabulous way while the title track lays into a Surf Rawk vibe bringing to mind The Toadies’ Possum Kingdom. Then “Dead Thirsty” brings it all to a head during this incendiary album ender complete with a throated sustained vocal following a feedback-soaked finale.

Nappy arrives on October 23rd through Pavement Entertainment. You can pre-save on the digital version of the EP now by heading here. For more on Draw Into Disorder, follow them on their socials by heading here or here.
