Destrends Deliver Cutting Edge 21st Century Post-Punk Perfection With Wasteland

There’s something inherently timeless about the Destrends sound and listening through their newest EP, Wasteland, is like being transported simultaneously back to the initial Punk Rawk revolution in the ’70’s and the mid-aughts for the ascent of bands like Kaiser Chiefs and Arctic Monkeys. Add some Rockabilly sensibilities and a vocalist that combines the bravado of Johnny Rotten with the quirkiness of Fred Schneider and you have yourself some of the most cutting edge Post-Punk out there today.

“Missing People” captures all those sounds and immediately sets this Melbourne-based trio apart from just about anyone else while “Wasteland” rests firmly in that British mid-’00’s sound. “Peaches” shimmers and grooves with hypnotic bass lines at the forefront and a commanding vocal performance building towards a stunning conclusion in “Medication” which is a huge sing-a-long new Post-Punk anthem closing out the EP with the fittingly bleak repeated refrain of “The dream is over”.

Wasteland is out now on Bread & Butter Records and is essential to your musical enjoyment in 2020. Get it right now right here or here. For more on Destrends, follow them all over the interwebs by clicking here, here, or here.
