Canyons and Locusts Pay Tribute To Justine Covault, Red On Red Records With Fuzzed-Out Fervor Of The Red Angel

Seems like we’ve been talking about Canyons and Locusts new EP forever with the steady roll out of singles that have preceded The Red Angel but the wait is finally over and fans will soon be rewarded with all of their favorites collected in one place along with two previously unheard new jams from the Phoenix/Boston duo of drummer Amy Young and vocalist/guitarist Justin Keane.

The shambolic “To Art Bell” starts off the fuzzed out festivities and is a crushing opener that immediately gives fans a sense of what they’re in for if they’ve yet to hear a single Canyons and Locusts ditty before now with “Soo All The Way” flowing nicely out of the previous robust riffage with its’ own barrage of bombast that’s like later Social Distortion mixed with The Gaslight Anthem.

“Buck Dharma’s Eyes”, which was the only pre-release track we didn’t have a chance to review when it was initially released, is propelled forth by a steady stomp from Young as Keane’s gruff croon delivers all the goods while “Love Goes Down The Drain” is just as much a rollicking raucous monger as it was when released for Valentine’s Day.

As for the unreleased-until-now tunes, “Donna Summer” is a drawn out formidable fuzzy rawker with Young’s rumbling beats amidst some altogether tender moments before the amps go all the way to “11” to lay the foundation for the celebratory last lap that’s “Wave Out Sunkiss” and barely a minute and a half of reverb-soaked resolution.

The Red Angel arrives on March 15th and you can head here or here to be the first on your block to hear the six stellar tracks within. For more from Canyons and Locusts, including all the info on even MORE releases slated to drop in 2024, follow the trail of socials by clicking here or here.
